Approach to the Curriculum

The Curriculum at Ferryhill is designed to be broad and balance in order to develop a wide range of experiences and skills. Decisions about subjects and courses are made with the best interests of children.

Whilst most children follow a relatively standard curriculum, some students do have the subjects that they study, adapted to best suit their needs. This may include additional lessons in the basic skills such as found in our ever popular Nurture group, or additional reading lessons to develop literacy skills.

In other circumstances we do let students ‘have a go’ at extra courses and the school have a good track record of letting students boost the number of subjects for those who are particularly keen. In most recent years, boosts have run in Sport, Business, Graphics and Further Maths.

GCSEs are changing and we now use numbers rather than grades.
