Thought for the Week: He who strikes the first blow, confesses he has run out of ideas.
Word of the Week: Bluster – Talk in a loud or aggressive way with little effect.  (Of wind or rain) blow or beat fiercely and noisily.  Unpredictable, not able to be predicted; changeable.

Damage to school building
I will draw attention to students and parents to our policy on payment for damage caused deliberately or through
Inappropriate action (including where a student claims the damage is accidental.)

In all such cases parents will be billed for the full cost of repair to the damage including any labour costs incurred. We do not accept that accidental damage occurs when a student is acting inappropriately.

Year 6 Celebration Event
Tuesday evening saw the annual celebration of the primary school project run by Mrs Hardy, Mrs Johnson and Mrs Eltringham.  Students from each partner primary school had been asked to work in groups and develop a presentation about the community of Ferryhill and Chilton.  The students collected information at a carousel of events held at FBEC in January.

The presentations kept the audience highly entertained and they will shortly be shown on the Life Channel. The prize for the winning teams will be a trip to London.  Well done to all involved.

Comenius Visit.
Last week myself and Mr Bowden travelled to Rotterdam in The Netherlands to attend a meeting about our School Comenius Project. At our Dutch partner school  (in a suburb of Rotterdam) we met up with teachers from Spain, Germany and The Czech Republic. We were given a tour of their school and then had a discussion with the Dutch headmaster and the rest of our European Colleagues about European education systems and pedagogy. It was very interesting to find out about how other schools ‘work’ and to understand that many schools across Europe face the same issues as we do here in Ferryhill.

Our ‘Whodunit’ project is a murder mystery novel, and it is being written one chapter at a time by each school involved in the partnership. The fourth chapter of the novel was presented to us in Rotterdam by two Czech students who had spent the last two months writing it with their classmates. There are now 4 completed chapters of the book written by; Ferryhill, Valladolid (Spain), Weinheim (Germany), Brno (Czech). The fifth chapter will be written in Holland, and all five schools will complete a final chapter. The best chapter to end the book will then be decided at the final meeting in Holland in June, which will be attended by all members of the Comenius writing team (12 year 10 pupils.)

If you are interested in reading the story so far then you can do so by accessing our school website www.fbec.co.uk clicking on web links, then school links and then there is a link for Comenius project ‘whodunit’ this will take you to a website about the project where you can access all of the chapters.

Each student has their own personal login which allows them to check on homework assignments, access lesson slideshows and attempt Booster Packs.
This resource provides valuable revision materials and should be used regularly by all students, especially prior to examinations, which, over the next two terms, means everyone!!!!!!!!!

Student behaviour on buses
Would all students please be aware that walking around the bus while the bus is moving is not acceptable. All students should be seated and should remain so during all of the journey to and from school and if seatbelts are available then they should be worn on all occasions. These instructions are for the benefit of your safety and should be adhered to at all times. Bus drivers will be reporting back to me if this type of student behavior becomes a concern and I will follow up on every report that I am made aware of.
