Thought for the Week: If anybody speaks ill of you, behave in such a way that nobody will believe it. Word of the Week: Random – made, done, or happening without method or conscious decision. Statistics governed by or involving equal chances for each item. Computers for Students – Assistance The government has recently announced a grant scheme for low income families to allow the purchase of a computer and/ or internet access. Eligibility requirements are parent or guardian of a child in school year 3-9. Do you receive at least one of the following? • Free school meals for your child • Income based jobseekers allowance • Income support • Child tax credit but not working tax credit and an income of less than £16,040 • Guaranteed pension credit (not savings credit) • Income based employment support allowance If so call the home Access Grant Helpline on 03332001004 to get an application form. A more detailed letter explaining the scheme is available on the school website. Information meetings are also being held at King James. Half Term Holiday School will be closed for the half term holiday at the end of Friday 12th February and will reopen at the start of the day Monday 22nd February. Mobile Telephone Usage in School Unfortunately the number of incidents where students are ringing or texting home with ‘tittle tattle’ is increasing. Our policy with mobile phones is simple: they are not to be used at all during lesson time or between lessons and should be switched off. Students using them in this way are liable to have telephones confiscated in accordance with the school’s discipline policy. It is often the case that small incidents that are routinely managed during a normal school day become major incidents when mums/dads are contacted at home, or even worse at work, during the school day. This is not appropriate and should these incidents continue it is likely that mobile phones may be banned completely. This is not something I wish to do – please ensure telephones are used appropriately. Please also remember college takes no responsibility at all should mobile phones, MP3 players etc be lost, stolen or damaged at school. P Bowden www.mymaths.co.uk All students have access to the Mymaths website!! Login: Ferryhill Password: rotate Each student has their own personal login which allows them to check on homework assignments, access lesson slideshows and attempt Booster Packs. This resource provides valuable revision materials and should be used regularly by all students, especially prior to examinations, which, over the next two terms, means everyone!!!!!!!!! M Mortimer Kingswood Activity Centre On Friday 5th February the Young Chamber students visited Kingswood Activity Centre in Hexham for a teambuilding weekend. The group of 11 students from Year 8 and Year 10 took part in a number of outdoor activities designed to develop their enterprise skills. This year’s camping and trekking weekends will take place in Upper Weardale during June and July. There will be an informal meeting for any parents that would like to know more on Wednesday 3rd March, 2.40pm in Room 50. D Wigham Parking outside the front of School Would parents/carers please note that parking outside the front of the school is not allowed in the area of the ‘Keep clear’ (yellow zig zag lines). This includes the road and the grass verge areas where these lines are painted. We are formally requesting that all car users who park there, especially around the time of 2.30pm, cease to do so as you are having a detrimental effect on the road safety in and around the school site. We have a safeguarding responsibility to our students and staff and to any visitors that attend the site so we need your support in this matter. Should car users choose to ignore this request then enforcement officers will be called to regularly check the area and they will issue fines where appropriate. Thanks for your support with this matter.
