Thought for the Week: Be the first to give a friendly sign, a nod first, speak first and, - if necessary- forgive first. Word of the Week: Spontaneous – Performed or occurring as a result of an unpremeditated impulse and without external stimulus. Open, natural, and uninhibited. (Of a process or event) occurring without apparent external cause. (Of movement or activity) instinctive or involuntary. Congratulations Congratulations to John Vaulks Y9 who won a high profile golf competition during the half term week. This competition was open to young people up to the age of 21 from the whole of Northumberland and Durham. John fought off competition from more than 150 other entrants- many much older than himself to finish the 18 hole course 3 strokes ahead of his competitors. He was presented with a large trophy – the Euro cup which he will retain for a year. Very well done! P Bowden Behaviour I would like all students to concentrate on their behaviour during breaks and lesson changeover especially in our narrow corridors. All movement in corridors should be on the right and calm (i.e. no shouting, pushing and running). Bear in mind that impressions of the school and it’s student’s are formed from what they observe initially. We now have a very good reputation for general student behaviour which impacts on the perception of college, future employers. P Bowden Litter The amount of litter being discarded is not acceptable when there are so many bins around the school. In some cases litter is being dropped within feet of a waste bin. This is due to a small minority of students but affects the environment for us all. It is totally anti social, and extremely lazy and selfish at best. Students who are observed dropping litter in these situations or leaving rubbish for others to clear up are likely to be given a litter picking duty. P Bowden Crown Prosecution Service Well done to Y9 students who this week took part in an interactive exercise with the Crown Prosecution Service designed to show young people how the court system works. The Presenters and coordinators commented very positively on the conduct and behaviour of all students. P Bowden Yr11 Prom – (Repeated from newsletter 15/1/10) Would parents and students note that the Yr11 Prom has been confirmed for Monday 28th June 2010 at Redworth Hall Hotel. All students who have paid their deposit however need to be aware that if they do not meet the eligibility criteria in attendance, punctuality and behaviour, they will not be allowed to attend. In these instances they will have their deposit returned. All students are aware of the criteria required and the vast majority of students will qualify to attend without any problems. Students who are concerned about their eligibility need to check with their Learning Co-ordinators before committing themselves to expensive purchases such as suits or dresses. Parents who would like to discuss these criteria in more detail are welcome to contact their son/daughter’s Learning Co-ordinator at college who will be able to help them. The Prom is a celebration event to mark the end of student’s time at FBEC and it is hoped that as many students as possible will attend and enjoy the night. If any student who has not paid a deposit decides they would like to attend, they should see Mrs Young to arrange this. I am repeating this notice as regrettably a small number of students who were warned of the consequences of failing to conform to our requirements have been removed from the attendance list. P.Bowden www.mymaths.co.uk All students have access to the Mymaths website!! Login: Ferryhill Password: rotate Each student has their own personal login which allows them to check on homework assignments, access lesson slideshows and attempt Booster Packs. This resource provides valuable revision materials and should be used regularly by all students, especially prior to examinations, which, over the next two terms, means everyone!!!!!!!!! M Mortimer
