Thought for the week:  A minute of thought is worth more than an hour of talk.
Word of the Week:  Presenter – To introduce a television or radio show.

Big Learning Day
Well done to students who took part in the wide range of activities during the recent
Big Learning Day.  All providers both in and out of school commented on the positive
behaviour and attitude of students.

Uniform/Haircut- Repeat Message
Our uniform rules are very straightforward and designed to prevent envy, copying,
subgroup culture bullying, undue expense to parents and hopefully to make our young
people feel part of the school.  This also applies to extreme haircuts- they are not
acceptable in school and should a student arrive in school in an unacceptable manner
they will be sent home until the situation is remedied.  During that time the student will
be marked unauthorised absent and if the situation continues or is repeated it is likely
that the student will be excluded from school.  Regrettably I have now had to do this on
two occasions.  Can I therefore clarify to parents and students we will not accept
unnaturally coloured hair or extreme hair styles including scrolling patterns and lines
cut into the scalp. P. Bowden

Parent Governor
A vacancy currently exists for a parent governor.  Governors are responsible for the
strategic direction of the school.  The Governing Body is composed of 21 Governors
7 of who are parent Governors. Governors are required to attend one full Governing
Body meeting per term and are asked to serve on a sub- committee meeting twice a
term.  This is a voluntary position.  Any interested parents are asked to ring me to
discuss the vacancy informally in the first instance.  P Bowden

GCSE Examination Dates
Next week’s newsletter will include a skeleton timetable that covers the whole of the GCSE examination period for Y11 (and some Y10) students. This is available now on the school website by following the relevant links.

This event will allow parents and students the opportunities to discuss progress with subject teachers following the Year 9 examinations.  In addition there will be the chance to hear about the courses available to the students in KS4 (Years 10 and 11) and ask Directors of Learning any questions.  There is to be an official options talk at 3pm, 4pm, 5pm and 6pm in room 4.  We hope you are able to attend one of these.  We look forward to seeing you at this very important event.  A Furniss/P Jones
